LG Electronics unveiled CLOiD (a name combining "clover" and "droid") at CES 2026 in Las Vegas (January 6-9, booth #15004), positioning it as the centerpiece of LG's vision for the "Zero Labor Home." Unlike industrial humanoids focused on factory tasks, CLOiD is engineered for the home — taking on cooking, cleaning, laundry folding, and wellness-monitoring tasks in residential environments where consumer-grade reliability, safety, and aesthetics matter as much as raw capability.
Hardware-wise, CLOiD combines a humanoid head and torso with two articulated 7-degree-of-freedom arms (each terminating in a five-finger hand) mounted on a wheeled autonomous base. The wheeled design is a deliberate choice — bipedal locomotion in homes is currently unnecessary, while wheels deliver superior speed, energy efficiency, and noise control. AI is built on Vision-Language Models (VLM) and Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, trained on tens of thousands of hours of household task data.
CLOiD's deepest strategic moat is integration with the LG ThinQ ecosystem — LG's home appliances platform. Demonstration scenarios at CES 2026 showed CLOiD coordinating with LG refrigerators, ovens, washing machines, and air conditioners. The robot is not (in 2026) a standalone product; it is the embodiment of an LG-wide smart-home strategy. For Korean robotics, this positions LG as one of the few global humanoid programs explicitly designed for residential consumer markets rather than factory pilots — a meaningful differentiator.
